Maison de la rue Loredan-Larchey
Maison de la rue Loredan-Larchey stands in Menton as a residential building from the Riviera’s early twentieth century. Abel Glena designed it in 1910. Its façades and roof show the period’s local architectural character, with Mediterranean, Italian and French influences visible in the city around it.
Antoine Anfossi and Thérèse Gibelli commissioned the house after acquiring the plot in 1907. A sgraffito frieze runs beneath the eaves, where scratched plaster reveals contrasting layers of colour. This technique gives the façade both pattern and texture. The façades, decoration and roof have enjoyed historic-monument protection since 3 April 1990. The building also received France’s Twentieth Century Heritage Label on 1 March 2001.
The protected exterior remains a clear example of the residential architecture that shaped Menton’s streetscape. Look beneath the roofline for the sgraffito, whose marked surface preserves a detail of Riviera craftsmanship.
