jardins Biovès
Jardins Biovès is a public garden in central Menton, stretching about 800 metres along a green promenade built over the covered Careï river. Regular square and rectangular flowerbeds shape the route, whose roughly 28-metre width leaves space for lawns, sculptures, fountains and walks.
The promenade forms Menton’s northwestern entrance from Sospel and connects the climatic quarter, developed in the 1870s, with the Condamine district from the late nineteenth century. Exotic plants reflect the mild climate, including Strelitzia augusta, a bird of paradise native to South Africa’s Cape region.
Flowering lawns and fountains accompany the route, while the covered river beneath it reveals how the city transformed an old watercourse into a central garden.
