Pojke med gäss

Pojke med gäss is a bronze sculpture by Thomas Qvarsebo beside the large pond in Slottsparken. A barefoot boy stands almost life-size on two stone slabs, with geese gathered around his feet. Relaxed shoulders and a tilted head make him seem to listen to the water. Green patina covers the metal, while polished highlights mark places touched by visitors. The scene feels intimate because the figures meet you at human scale.

Thomas Qvarsebo created the work as his first public commission, and the park received it the following year. One goose pecks, another rests, and a third keeps watch in the original arrangement. Parts of the sculpture were later sawn away and stolen, leaving one goose beside the damaged boy. Protection and careful plans to recast the missing birds shape the work’s future. In low sunlight, long shadows stretch from the bronze across the stone and pondside ground.
