Filmen 100 år

Filmen 100 år is a monumental diabase sculpture shaped like a black film reel unspooling across the grass. Its single block of stone creates a solid, grounded presence.

Christer Bording carved the work as a filmstrip, with implied sprocket holes and panels resembling frozen frames. Bording works in Boalt, in Göinge. Polished sections reflect sunlight like projector beams, while coarse chisel marks preserve the stone’s physical texture. The surfaces shift between shine and roughness.

A suggestive female torso emerges from the strip, giving the cinematic form a distinctly human dimension. The human body appears within the stone. The sculpture commemorates the first public film screening held at this site during the Pilstorps exhibition. Its subject joins early cinema with geology.

The black diabase recalls celluloid while retaining the weight and marks of a carved mineral block. Sunlight moves across its bright polished bands. The sculpture connects a local volcanic material with the memory of moving pictures. Its form remains readable from the grass.
