Corralón de las Dos Puertas

Corralón de las Dos Puertas in Málaga is a historic residential building shaped by the traditional corralón style. Its central courtyard organizes open galleries and shared circulation. Two stories contain simple exterior openings, while small balconies mark the first floor. The structure preserves Málaga’s last corralón untouched by modern renovation, retaining its nineteenth- and twentieth-century character.

Working-class families lived here until deteriorating conditions led to evacuation in 2013. Since then, abandonment has left parts of the building apparently at risk of collapse. Grade I heritage protection recognizes its architectural importance despite this damage. Its history also reflects Málaga’s communal housing traditions and the property pressures faced by residents.

Rehabilitation plans propose affordable homes for young people and vulnerable families. The building appears on the Red List of endangered monuments, linking its future to urgent preservation. One small balcony, set above the courtyard galleries, captures the restrained domestic architecture that survives here.
