Stadioner Hof

Stadioner Hof is a Baroque palace in Mainz’s Bleichenviertel, the city’s first Baroque district with broad streets and a grid layout. Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn designed the residence for the Luxembourgish von Rollingen family, combining restrained French classicism with a triangular gable.

Construction ran from 1728 to 1733, then Anton Heinrich Friedrich von Stadion acquired the palace in 1737. French authorities used it as a justice palace from 1798 to 1814, while military governors later occupied it as a command post until 1890. War damage led to restoration by French occupation forces in 1949, and a bank now uses the building.

Six ornate consoles support the balcony, with lion skins draped over the outer pair. The original side wings and courtyard have disappeared, while the façade regained its original colours in the early 1990s.
