Schlossterrasse

Schlossterrasse extends along the castle complex in Linz, opening a wide view across the old town, skyline, and Danube. Granite paving follows the castle wall. The terrace gives you an open place to pause, take photographs, and look across the city from above.

Marienkapelle occupies an arcade niche on the castle’s southeast side, joining a quiet chapel with the panoramic terrace. Its white walls and ceiling contrast with the granite floor. A neo-baroque altar carries a copy of Raphael’s Madonna with Child, beneath images of God the Father and the Holy Spirit. A sunburst with a Marian monogram crowns the arrangement. The chapel took shape from a Marian side altar removed from the main castle chapel after early Gothic frescoes appeared during renovations in the 1950s. Its double iron gate shows a diamond pattern and the Salm family’s two-fish coat of arms.

A holy water font stands on the right wall, while family ceremonies have taken place inside the chapel since its opening in 2008. The combination of white surfaces, ironwork, granite, and distant water gives the terrace its distinct character.
