Ehem. Mitteldeutsche Motorenwerke
Ehem. Mitteldeutsche Motorenwerke occupies a wooded site northwest of Taucha, once partly within Leipzig-Portitz. Vegetation now hides most of the remaining ruins. The factory belonged to Auto Union and operated from 1935 to 1948. It produced Junkers aircraft engines under licence.
Jumo 205, Jumo 211, and Jumo 213 engines came from these workshops, alongside components for the Jumo 004 jet turbine. Forced labour formed part of the wartime workforce. Military aircraft used the engines during the Second World War, linking the site to German aviation production. Partial dismantling began in 1947 after the war, and the remaining structures later disappeared. Cold months reveal more of the overgrown foundations when the undergrowth thins.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Leipzig. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
