Ansgarkirche
Ansgarkirche stands in Kiel’s Blücherplatz district as an Evangelical Lutheran church built between 1901 and 1903. Jürgen Kröger designed its street-facing neo-Gothic exterior. A stepped gable, a rosette, and contrasting white surfaces shape the view from outside. The building offers wheelchair access at its entrances.
Inside, Romanesque influences meet simple modern forms in a basilica layout with unusually narrow, low side aisles. World War Two left the structure heavily damaged. Reconstruction introduced a barrel vault with lunette vaults, while original ribbed vaulting survives near the organ gallery. West and north portals lead into a foyer separated from the nave by a glass wall. Hans Kock gave the architectural elements and windows colourful designs.
The organ on the rear gallery combines parts of old Kiel organs and carries 38 registers across three manuals and pedal. Paschen Kiel Orgelbau technically overhauled and reintoned it in 2023. Three iron-cast bells replaced wartime losses in 1926, after Schilling & Lattermann made them in Apolda, Thuringia. A simple cross marks the altar area, only slightly separated from the nave.
