Michaeliskirche
The Michaeliskirche stands in Hanover-Ricklingen as a Neo-Gothic church belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran parish. Clinker brick and round-arched windows shape its five-axis hall. Behind the hall, a recessed five-eighths chancel meets a tower crowned by a high pyramid-shaped roof.
Architect Fritz Knust designed the building, which rose between 1887 and 1888. Carl Grono painted its interior in 1906. Whitewash covered those scenes in 1938, while biblical sayings and the Archangel Michael appeared on the front. Renovation in 1981 and 1982 uncovered Grono’s work and restored the earlier interior. Wheelchair access makes this historic architectural setting easier to reach.
Three bells hang in the tower, including a Luther Bell cast in 1483. It came from Edelhof Chapel and moved here in 1888. Two younger bells replaced wartime losses in 1920 and 1956.
