Matthäuskirche

Matthäuskirche stands in Winterhude, Hamburg, as a Lutheran brick church built between 1910 and 1912. Its Baroque architecture gives the building a distinctive character. Its plan follows a Greek cross and includes elements associated with St Michael’s Church.

Between 1961 and 1971, Charles Crodel created colorful stained-glass windows for the interior. Their colors bring a vivid focus to the church. Restoration returned the entrance hall to its original design in 2011 and 2012.

The church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Winterhude-Uhlenhorst and supports social projects. Events and activities also bring people together within the community. Wheelchair accessibility adds a practical detail for visitors.
