Dialog im Dunkeln

Dialog im Dunkeln is an exhibition in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt, where visually impaired guides lead you through complete darkness. You navigate familiar settings without sight, relying on hearing, touch, smell and your companions. Street markets and dinners with friends become carefully recreated scenes for this unusual change of perspective. Wheelchair access makes the experience available to visitors with different mobility needs.

Andreas Heinecke founded the concept in 1988, and the first permanent Hamburg exhibition opened in 2000. The guides take the leading role, turning everyday movement into a lesson in orientation and trust. Their guidance shifts attention from visual assumptions towards abilities, communication and the details surrounding you. Dialoghaus also hosts Dialog im Stillen, where deaf guides introduce visitors to communication without spoken sound. Workshops, team-building sessions and Dinner in the Dark extend the same sensory approach beyond the exhibition route.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Hamburg. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?

myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
