Wehmeyer-Denkmal
The Wehmeyer-Denkmal stands beside a path in the Schlosspark, shaped from stone to resemble a tree trunk. A flat slab carries its inscription.
Duke August commissioned the memorial in 1813 for Christian Heinrich Wehmeyer, his head gardener. Wehmeyer lived from 1729 to 1813. His work transformed a noble hunting preserve into the park surrounding you today, through planting, care and deliberate design. The inscription reads: “To the spirit of the worthy Wehmeyer.”
The carved trunk brings natural forms and human craftsmanship together beside the path. Its stone surface preserves a quiet tribute to the gardener who gave these grounds their lasting landscape.
