Frankenberg-Denkmal
Frankenberg-Denkmal stands beside the northern path near the great pond, where trees shade a weathered memorial stone. Duke August placed it there in 1816 to honour Sylvius Friedrich von Frankenberg, a minister remembered for decades of public service.
Frankenberg joined the council in 1765 and became a leading statesman in 1788. In 1803, he funded most of a hospital that served the city until 1879. After his death in 1815, the duke commissioned the stone in a simple Greek style, and local foundations began caring for it in 2009. Eight thousand euros have supported conservation, including the careful removal of the stone for restoration.
The original inscription, “Dedicated to the unforgettable Sylvius,” has weathered away. Trees, footsteps and the quiet pond now surround a memorial shaped by gratitude.
