Rödelheimer Wasserturm
Rödelheimer Wasserturm rises in Frankfurt’s Rödelheim district as a fifty-one-metre landmark shaped by industrial water engineering. Its stone-clad base, tall shaft, slate-covered crown and weather vane create a distinctive outline above the surrounding streets.
Built between 1898 and 1899, the tower stored water high enough to maintain pressure in newly installed pipe networks. Those pipes replaced older wells as Rödelheim grew from a small town into a busy Frankfurt suburb. A ten-metre base supports a shaft reaching twenty-seven metres, while the upper reservoir held 380 cubic metres of water. After Rödelheim joined Frankfurt in 1910, connection to the city supply ended the tower’s original function.
The protected monument now contains office space rather than a working reservoir. Its weather vane still crowns the slate-covered top, linking a practical water system with a recognisable piece of Rödelheim’s skyline.
