Schootsekerk

Schootsekerk stands in Eindhoven’s Strijp district, beside Drents Dorp, as a 1931 church designed by Ferd B. Jantzen. Its tower, stained glass and Amsterdam School details give the building a strong architectural presence.

The church arose when Protestant families from Drenthe moved to Eindhoven for work near the Philips factories. Catharina Lokker laid the first stone on 18 July 1931, and construction finished that December. Bomb damage during the Second World War left cracks in the walls, while the space beneath the tiled roof sheltered people during the conflict. Two bells, Roeper and Trooster, have hung in the tower since 1955, after a paper collection raised money for them.

A municipal monument today, the church includes the Schootskwartier annex, added in 1995 for childcare, catechism classes, choir evenings and meetings. About 300 members form an active Christian Reformed congregation around this building.
