Maranathakerk
Maranathakerk is a church in Eindhoven, built in 1953 for the Reformed community. Its brick walls, natural-stone window tracery and octagonal tiled roof create a distinctive post-war silhouette.
Designed by A.C. Nicolai, the building replaced an earlier church in Strijp and opened as the Westerkerk in 1956. The Pentecostal community of Eindhoven acquired it in 1995, adapting the interior with a drum set, piano and sound system. Sunday worship includes singing, Bible readings and a sermon, while children and teenagers have their own groups and services. A separate building adds nine rooms for community activities, and the church is recognised as a municipal monument.
Look for the detached open bell tower with its balustrades: two crosses also stand along the roof ridge. Inside, wooden roof trusses, glazed tiles bearing a cross motif and a gallery now used for storage preserve details of the building’s earlier character.
