Prøvestenen
Prøvestenen is a harbour area in Copenhagen where fuel infrastructure meets fishing along the city’s working waterfront. Its tanks, pipelines, berths, and industrial shoreline create a distinctly utilitarian setting. The area connects daily harbour activity with open-air recreation, especially for anglers seeking cod, sea trout, or herring.
A large terminal stores and distributes jet fuel, heating oil, and other petroleum products for Denmark’s transport and energy networks. A direct pipeline carries aviation fuel to Copenhagen Airport. The facility also supplies other Danish airports and handles loading, unloading, blending, heating, bulk materials, and drums. Its infrastructure accommodates sustainable aviation fuel made from bio-waste and newer liquid fuels linked to renewable energy. This role places Prøvestenen within Denmark’s shift towards lower-fossil energy systems.
The harbour’s fishing culture gives the industrial landscape a practical public dimension. Local anglers also pursue garfish, mackerel, and flatfish around Copenhagen’s inner ports. Here, a cod angler can stand beside infrastructure serving aircraft across the working harbour.
