Messeturm
Messeturm rises about eighty metres beside Cologne’s fair halls, on the Rhine bank in Köln-Deutz. Across the river, the tower faces Cologne Cathedral and the old town. Its brick façade gives the exhibition district a shared visual character with the nearby halls.
Construction began in 1927, and the tower opened with a fair on 12 May 1928. Hans Wissel created the Hermes-Gesichter sculpture above it. Hermes connects the figure with trade and travel, fitting the surrounding exhibition grounds.
A restaurant once occupied the top floor, offering views across Cologne during a meal. The closed restaurant belongs to the tower’s past, while the brickwork and sculpture remain its clearest features. During Gamescom in 2018, coloured light also brought the tower into a wider illumination across the fairgrounds.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Cologne. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
