Villa Borgward

Villa Borgward stands in Bremen’s Horn-Lehe district, where a country estate first emerged in 1750. Hieronymus Klugkist established the estate before becoming Bremen’s mayor.

The property was known as Landgut Focke-Fritze from the early nineteenth century into the twentieth century. Nearly two kilometres of grounds included a park, while agriculture continued across the remaining land until the 1920s. After several changes of ownership, Carl F. W. Borgward acquired the villa in 1952. Architect Rudolf Lodders helped reshape the building, and Bernd Kuhlwein designed the garden.

Classicist details define the 29-metre façade, including pilasters and a semicircular window above the roof. A stone crest marks 1750, while monument protection has safeguarded the villa since 1973. The Borgward family lived among these rooms until 2000, linking the house to Bremen’s architectural and industrial history.
