Meyer am Boom

Meyer am Boom stands in Bremen’s Oberneuland district as a historic farmhouse and protected architectural monument. Its thatched hipped roof and plastered timber frame mark the regional niederdeutsches Hallenhaus style. Horse-head carvings decorate the wind boards at both gable ends.

Built around the early eighteenth century, the two-post structure includes side extensions from its agricultural past. A family-run gaststätte operated here for roughly three centuries. Farmers first gathered inside, while later visitors from higher social circles joined them around antique furnishings, wall clocks and plush sofas. An outdoor bowling alley added a local novelty in the nineteenth century.

The former restaurant now serves as a residence, while the building remains protected as a monument. Nearby, the old barrier that inspired “am Boom” explains why the place points to a gate rather than a tree.
