Neues Museum

Neues Museum stands on Museum Island in Berlin, combining Neoclassical and Renaissance Revival architecture with collections from several eras. Friedrich August Stüler built the museum between 1843 and 1855 for King Frederick William IV of Prussia. Its galleries bring together the Egyptian Museum, the Papyrussammlung, the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, and parts of the Antikensammlung. Wheelchair access makes the building easier to explore.

Iron construction and a steam engine marked important technological advances during its construction, especially on the soft ground beside the River Spree. World War II damaged the building, which later remained in decay during the East German period. David Chipperfield restored it between 1999 and 2009, preserving historic elements alongside modern interventions. The Egyptian collection includes the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti, while the surrounding Museum Island forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
