Erlöserkirche
Erlöserkirche is an Evangelical Methodist church in Berlin’s Mitte district, completed in 1905. Five-storey housing hides it from the street. From nearby Heinrich-Zille-Park, you can see its two-storey hall church, cross-gabled roof, and large windows.
The building belongs to a historic ensemble designed by Carl Breuer, whose U-shaped courtyard structure joins church and housing. Clinker brick gives the façade its North German brick Gothic character. Four roof bays shape the nave, while apartments occupy the first two floors of the transverse section. Before construction, Methodist worship moved between several venues because neither Prussian church authorities nor public administration provided funding. A church building association collected donations.
The organ dates from 1888 and received an expansion and reconstruction by Ernst Teichert in 1938. The façade is protected as a historic monument and stands apart from the neighbouring residences.
