Chamäleon

Chamäleon sits inside the Hackesche Höfe in Berlin’s Mitte, where contemporary circus meets a historic Jugendstil hall. The theatre welcomes local and international artists to a stage shaped by movement, music, and collaboration. August Endell designed the original hall for the Neumann’schen Festsäle in the early twentieth century. Its colourful glazed façades and intricate interior details still frame the performances.

The venue has served as a festive hall, a rehearsal space during the DDR era, and a variety theatre after extensive renovation. Today, a nonprofit organisation develops contemporary circus through original productions, co-productions, and partnerships with artists. The hall combines modern lighting and sound with restored architectural details. A rehearsal space called The Cave gives artists room to develop new projects. Productions such as Leo and Raven have carried its circus work to international audiences.
