Torre del Rellotge

Torre del Rellotge rises from Barcelona’s Moll de Pescadors, a stone pyramidal tower beside the port and Barceloneta. Jorge Próspero de Verboom designed it as a lighthouse in 1772, guiding ships into the harbour at night.

Port improvements made the light obsolete by the mid-nineteenth century, and a new lighthouse opened on Montjuïc in 1904. The old tower survived demolition, while its lamp gave way to a four-dial clock assembled by Josep Besses. Its setting also connects with science history: Pierre François André Méchain used the tower as a geodesic point while measuring the meridian arc from Dunkirk to Barcelona.

The clock mechanism restored in 2022 now stands in the vestibule, although the interior remains closed to visitors. From Maremagnum’s top floor, you can see the tower with the harbour, cable car and Las Golondrinas boarding point beyond it.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Barcelona. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
