Sathorn Unique Tower

Sathorn Unique Tower rises unfinished in Bangkok’s Sathon district, with neo-Grecian columns and balconies marking its exultant post-modernist design. The planned luxury condominium reaches forty-nine storeys, including two underground levels, and connects to a ten-storey parking garage.

Construction began in 1990 under architect and developer Rangsan Torsuwan, who also designed Bangkok’s State Tower. Work stopped during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when the tower stood about eighty percent complete and funding companies collapsed. Its core structure remains considered secure, while interior and infrastructure work had barely begun.

The unfinished floors have drawn urban explorers and international attention, although access remains officially off-limits. Museum Siam later used the tower for a seminar, and the building appeared in the horror film The Promise. Its reputation as a ghost tower also reflects stories about a former graveyard beneath the site and the tower’s shadow falling across neighbouring Wat Yan Nawa.
