Pius X-kerk
Pius X-kerk stands in Wilrijk, a district of Antwerp, as a 1967 church designed by Paul Meekels. Its brutalist form uses red brick walls, a rectangular plan and a flat roof carried by concrete beams. Window openings between the beams bring daylight into the interior, where simple furniture by Meekels and Lode Wouters continues the building’s sturdy character.
The parish began in 1960, and the church supports worship, pastoral care and community life. Eucharists, baptisms, weddings, funerals, choir performances, concerts and other gatherings all take place here. Provisional monument protection in 2019 recognises the building’s architectural and cultural value within Belgian church architecture.
The separate bell tower gives the site its strongest visual detail: three slightly twisted concrete planes rise thirty metres above the ground.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Antwerp. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
