House of Bols brings Amsterdam’s cocktail history to life in the city’s Museum Quarter, near the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark. Colourful rooms invite you into the craft of Dutch spirits.
Bols traces its origins to Amsterdam in 1575, when Lucas Bols connected the distillery with herbs and spices from the Dutch East India Company. Those ingredients shaped a wide range of liqueurs. Genever takes centre stage here, with juniper, malt wine and botanicals distilled in copper pot stills. Its story reaches into early American cocktail culture, where genever became a key ingredient.
The Hall of Taste lets you smell liqueur aromas and identify their flavours through your senses. At the flair booth, you can practise shaking and serving cocktails. Eight-language audio guidance accompanies the visit, while cocktail workshops add step-by-step instruction from professional bartenders. The Mirror Bar matches a drink to your flavour preferences, then serves it in a room surrounded by reflections. Nearby, the Mirror Magic Room captures a 360-degree cocktail selfie.
