Bo-Kaap view
Bo-Kaap View zeigt ein Viertel Kapstadts, dessen bunt gestrichene Häuser die Geschichte der Kap-Malay-Gemeinschaft sichtbar machen. Flache Dächer prägen das historische Straßenbild von Bo-Kaap.
Georgianische und kap-holländische Bauelemente verbinden sich hier mit Fassaden in kräftigen Farben. Die farbigen Fassaden spiegeln die kulturelle Identität der Gemeinschaft.
Die Vorfahren der Kap-Malay-Bevölkerung kamen durch die Niederländische Ostindien-Kompanie aus Malaysia, Indonesien, Madagaskar und Indien. Ihr islamischer Glaube und viele Bräuche blieben erhalten.
Das Bo-Kaap-Museum befindet sich im ältesten Gebäude des Viertels und zeigt Möbel, Fotografien sowie die Kaapse Klopse. Atlas Trading führt Gewürze für die Kap-Malay-Küche.
Samoosas, Koesisters und Kap-Malay-Curry veranschaulichen eine Küche, die Einflüsse verschiedener Herkunft verbindet. Gastfreundschaft gehört in Bo-Kaap zum Gemeinschaftsleben.
Das Viertel steht zugleich unter dem Druck der Gentrifizierung, die seine gewachsene Struktur verändern kann. Bo-Kaap bewahrt sichtbare Spuren seiner Vergangenheit.
Die Geschichte des Viertels gehört auch zur Apartheidgeschichte Südafrikas.
