Sinti-Mahnmal
Sinti-Mahnmal stands in Würzburg as a place of remembrance for Sinti and Roma persecuted under National Socialism. A metal cube turns within a metal frame.
Vocational students and teachers from the Franz Oberthür School and Josef Greising School created this structure. Its inscriptions in German and Romanes honour Würzburg’s Sinti murdered in Auschwitz and other extermination camps. More than three hundred Sinti and Roma from Würzburg became victims of the Holocaust. Rita Prigmore, a Würzburg Sinti survivor, works to make the memorial accessible to visitors from other countries.
Three sides remain blank for planned English, Italian and Spanish inscriptions. The rotating cube leaves one clear image: remembrance changes as each written side comes into view.
