Schloss Biebrich
Schloss Biebrich is a Baroque palace in Wiesbaden, Hesse, set beside a public park with scenic views. Its distinctive façade centres on a circular ballroom, the Rotunda, which links two matching pavilions.
Prince Georg August Samuel of Nassau-Idstein began the palace in 1702, starting with the West Pavilion before adding the East Pavilion in 1706. Johann Maximilian von Welsch connected them with a gallery in 1707, while the Rotunda reached completion in 1721. Further eastern and western wings followed under Friedrich Joachim Stengel, and Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell shaped the gardens in 1817.
The residence served the dukes of Nassau until Wiesbaden’s Stadtschloss replaced it, then became a summer residence after Nassau joined Prussia in 1866. War damage led to restoration by the State of Hesse in the early 1980s, while the palace now houses the state historic preservation agency and serves governmental purposes.
