Die Duscher

Die Duscher stands on the lower platform of the main staircase in Wenningstedt, on the island of Sylt. Christel and Laura Lechner created the sculpture as part of their Alltagsmenschen series. Two lifelike figures share a playful shower scene in the middle of this public setting.

The series places everyday people in familiar poses, wearing ordinary clothing such as bathing shorts or jackets. Nearly twenty sculptures are scattered throughout Wenningstedt, turning daily walks into encounters with human-sized characters. Detailed surfaces and expressive poses give these two bathers their humorous, approachable presence.
