Muret e Aulonës Antike
Muret e Aulonës Antike brings you to some of Vlora’s oldest traces, in the city centre. Ancient Aulona stood as a small coastal port, sheltered by hills and facing the Narta Lagoon.
Layers beneath the modern streets record settlements built, destroyed, and rebuilt for more than two thousand years. The visible stones belong to Greco-Roman and Late Antique fortifications that once protected a harbour linking the Adriatic with inland Epirus. Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans later built over earlier structures, creating unusually complex archaeological layers.
Fragments of the walls also extend to Triport, while other sections now lie underwater after centuries of coastal change. Ptolemy mentioned Aulona, leaving the ancient harbour connected to a name preserved from antiquity.
