Meidlinger Markt

Meidlinger Markt stands in Vienna’s twelfth district, where roughly fifty stalls bring a compact neighborhood market to life. Fresh regional produce and organic goods share space with cafés, restaurants, and independent local traders. The relaxed setting draws nearby residents and visitors of different ages.

Founded in 1873, the market became a neighborhood meeting place through more than 150 years of change. Wooden stalls gave way to permanent buildings in 1926. The market underwent further modernization in 2006, after demolition plans were abandoned. Farmers, small businesses, and newer shops keep its food scene varied and active.

Wirtschaft am Markt serves modern Viennese cooking, while Heu & Gabel focuses on regional ingredients and organic delicatessen. Turkish flatbreads, Vietnamese dishes, cakes, cheeses, sausages, and coffee extend the choices. A permanent flea market occupies the northern section, alongside a dog shop and a book-exchange telephone booth. At the southern end, Meidlinger Alm adds Austrian dishes beneath honey locust trees.
