Constructie staande
Constructie staande is an outdoor bronze sculpture in Utrecht, presenting a female figure through geometric shapes and flowing forms. Its open setting makes the work wheelchair accessible and places abstract art within the city’s public spaces.
Charlotte van Pallandt first created the sculpture in 1939, then produced this enlarged bronze version in 1980. She worked with plaster, wood, clay, stone and bronze, while her portraits and torso studies remained mostly figurative. Here, the human form becomes less realistic, with few facial or clothing details and visible traces of hands and tools. The smaller original belongs to the Duke University Museum of Art in North Carolina.
Bronze gives the standing figure a surface built for outdoor life, while its rough finish keeps the making process visible. The work shows van Pallandt testing abstraction without leaving the body behind.
