Max-Eyth-Denkmal

Max-Eyth-Denkmal stands on the Adler Bastei in Ulm, connecting engineering, literature and local history. The memorial honours Max Eyth.

Born in Kirchheim unter Teck in 1836, Eyth developed agricultural machinery and wrote about technology and society. He studied at Stuttgart Polytechnic. His engineering career took him to England, Egypt and the United States, where he worked with machines suited to different environments. Steam ploughing formed one important part of his work. He also helped found the German Agricultural Society.

His books include Hinter Pflug und Schraubstock and Der Kampf um die Cheops-Pyramide. The setting also recalls Albrecht Ludwig Berblinger, known as the Tailor of Ulm. In 1811, Berblinger attempted his first flight from this bastion. Eyth later transformed that story into his novel Der Schneider von Ulm, giving the site a lasting link between invention and storytelling.
