HfG-Archiv Ulm
HfG-Archiv Ulm occupies the upper floors of the former Ulm School of Design building in Ulm, Germany. The museum and archive preserve photographs, graphics, and documents from a formative chapter in industrial design. Exhibitions, publications, and scientific research open this material to anyone interested in design history. The surrounding architecture follows Max Bill’s modernist principles of simplicity and utility.
Inge Scholl, Otl Aicher, and Max Bill founded the school in 1953, and it remained active until 1968. Its teaching connected functional products with prosperity in a democratic post-war society. Otl Aicher and Hans Gugelot appear among the designers whose work and influence the collections document. Contemporary exhibitions and events place those historical ideas alongside ongoing conversations about design.
