Aufgefächertes Portal
Aufgefächertes Portal is a sculpture in Ulm, Germany, standing just north of a pond. Franz H. Konarkowski created it in 1990 from galvanized steel, shaping wedge-like openings that fan out in several directions.
Unequal gates meet at one point, appearing harmoniously divided yet eccentrically connected. Up close, the construction shows monumental strength through its sturdy metal and precise geometry, while its wheelchair-accessible setting keeps the artwork within reach. From farther away, the structure appears more delicate against the landscape.
Granite and basalt paving form the base, where lines echo the horizon.
