Ruine Hohenfels
Ruine Hohenfels stands near Überlingen as the stone remains of a medieval fortress surrounded by forests and hills. Old walls and towers still rise among moss, plants, and woodland.
The fortress once served as a strategic defensive stronghold and helped control the surrounding area during times of conflict. Its remains form part of the eleven-kilometre Fidelishöhe, Ruine Hohenfels, and Zimmerwise loop. The trail climbs around four hundred metres, with a steeper approach adding 150 metres across three kilometres. A relatively flat section through dense forest leads towards Zimmerwise after the ascent.
Panoramic views extend across forests and hills, while foxes, deer, and many bird species inhabit the surrounding landscape. Ancient oaks and seasonal wildflowers accompany the route through the greenery. The old stones, softened by moss and vegetation, show how the fortress has become part of its natural setting.
