Auferstehungskirche

Auferstehungskirche stands in Überlingen as the town’s first Protestant church, built in neo-Gothic style between 1866 and 1867. It occupies the former Franciscan convent of St Gallus. A tower arrived in 1903, followed by alterations in 1931 and 1982 that expanded the original modest building.

A renovation from 2017 to 2018 brought whitewashed brick and glass elements to the façade, while extending the nave and reshaping the entrance. The entrance includes an elevator and accessible restroom. Inside, Elisabeth Coester’s colourful 1931 stained-glass windows accompany an 1867 neo-Gothic pulpit and Werner Gürtner’s 1982 bronze Christ. The side nave now serves as a sound space, while flexible choir seating supports worship, rehearsals and concerts.

The organ began with Paul Ott in 1958, moved through Münster, and reached Überlingen in 2020 with a third manual added in 2023. It now offers 41 stops across three manuals. Outside, biblical Garden Eden gathers fig and olive trees beside quiet places for reflection and an audio guide.
