Verdensteatret kino
Verdensteatret kino is a compact municipal cinema in Norway, with one auditorium that draws you into close, attentive screenings. A modest entrance opens onto painted figures and a room built for silent film.
Peter Arnet Amundsen designed the building, which opened on 4 June 1916 with live music before its first silent picture. Sverre Mack added folk-tale wall motifs in 1921. Protected-building status from 1994 preserves its intimate scale and decorative character, while fewer seats keep screenings personal.
Since 2006, the cinema has operated within a cinematek and festival programme featuring classics, curated film prints, and premieres. Silent-film days bring live accompaniment, and a small bar supports the communal atmosphere. When the projector beam crosses the dark, look up at Mack’s figures watching from the walls.
