Catedrala Ortodoxă Sârbă
The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral stands in Union Square, Timișoara, dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Its eighteenth-century Baroque architecture rises among pastel façades, cafés, restaurants, and historic buildings such as the Roman Catholic Cathedral and Baroque Palace.
The neighbouring Serbian Orthodox Vicariate occupies another Baroque building from the same period. By the mid-nineteenth century, Serbian and Romanian Orthodox communities worshipped here together, before the cathedral remained with the Serbian community after their separation. Since 1964, the church has held protected historical-monument status.
Inside, an ornate iconostasis separates the nave from the sanctuary. Nineteenth-century Banat artists and craftsmen, including Constantin Daniel, Mihajlo Janić, Josif Alexander Töpfer, and Jozsef Habinger, shaped its religious paintings and carved details.
