Минск
Minsk is a historic city spot in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, connected to Soviet wartime memory. Here, the story reaches beyond Tashkent into the history of World War II, known regionally as the Great Patriotic War. The setting presents a city remembered for resistance, destruction, occupation, and the sacrifices of its people.
The Soviet Union awarded Minsk the honorary title Hero City on 26 June 1974. The distinction recognised collective endurance during the war and placed Minsk among twelve honoured cities. Alongside the title came the Order of Lenin, the Gold Star medal, and a certificate from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. A commemorative obelisk stands as the clearest detail, linking the city’s honour to remembrance and reflection. The award system ended officially in 1988, while these monuments continue to connect present visitors with twentieth-century history.
