Villa Knosp
Villa Knosp stands in Stuttgart as a nineteenth-century villa designed by architect Joseph von Egle. Its façade combines unplastered brick with stone, creating a distinctive contrast you can see from outside.
Built for industrialist Rudolf Knosp in the late 1850s, the building brings together North German, Dutch, and French Renaissance elements. Asymmetrical forms and a picturesque composition give the design its character, while the unusual material choice made a strong impression on Egle’s contemporaries.
The villa helped establish Egle’s public reputation and became a model for later buildings. Its exposed brick remains the detail that most clearly sets this Stuttgart landmark apart.
