Thekla Blum
The Thekla Blum Stolperstein in Stuttgart places remembrance within an everyday pavement, where pedestrians may encounter it by chance. A brass plate marks the small concrete cube.
The handmade memorial belongs to the Stolpersteine project, initiated by German artist Gunter Demnig in 1992. These stones commemorate people persecuted or murdered under Nazi rule at their last freely chosen homes. Jewish victims form the majority, while other stones remember Sinti and Romani people, Poles, homosexuals, disabled people and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Its decentralized form connects one personal name with neighborhoods across Europe, keeping remembrance within daily surroundings.
