Stauffenberg Erinnerungsstätte

Stauffenberg Erinnerungsstätte occupies the Alten Schloss in Stuttgart, presenting Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg and his brother Berthold. Their lives move from a protected Stuttgart youth through military careers and into resistance against the Nazi regime. The exhibition examines their roles within a broad conspiracy involving people from different political and ideological backgrounds. It also explores how Stauffenberg and the assassination attempt have received conflicting interpretations in Germany and other countries.

Original objects include Stauffenberg’s cello, ceremonial sabre and a bronze head. Historical photographs follow his childhood, youth, resistance activity and death. Interactive media stations reveal connections between conspirators, support biographical research and trace the coup attempt across Germany and occupied territories. A multi-touch table follows the operation from Stauffenberg’s flight to the Wolf’s Lair near present-day Kętrzyn in Poland through its suppression. Workshops connect his story with other resistance histories in Stuttgart.
