Stadtkirche

The Stadtkirche St. Blasius stands in Stuttgart-Vaihingen as a neo-Gothic hall church designed by Christian Friedrich von Leins. The present building dates from 1858 to 1860. It replaced an older church first mentioned in 1260, linking the present structure with Vaihingen’s medieval history. Its nave has a central aisle, side aisles, buttresses, and a transept. A recessed choir with a three-sided ending occupies the eastern side, while the western façade presents the main tower. The tower’s core reaches back to the thirteenth century. Its octagonal upper levels hold a clock and a belfry, while an eight-sided slate roof crowns the structure. Church bells hang in the belfry above the clock. Inside, a medieval Crucifixion painting stands alongside Ulrich Henn’s bronze altar cross from 1975. Choir windows from 1952 depict the Evangelists in patterned glass. Johann Heinrich Schäfer built the organ in 1860, and later renovations expanded it, including work completed in 2018.
