St. Barbara
St. Barbara is the Roman Catholic church of Hofen, a district of Stuttgart in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is dedicated to Saint Barbara of Nicomedia and belongs to the city deanery within the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
Built between 1783 and 1784 to a design by Michael Bader, the building is a hall church. Its nave leads to a recessed choir that closes in three sides to the east. A flank tower rises against the choir's south wall, and the church is recognised as a cultural heritage site.
The interior holds furnishings gathered from monastic buildings that no longer exist. Three baroque altars arrived in 1810 from the monastery church of the dissolved Franciscan community at Oeffingen. The Stations of the Cross originate in the secularised monastery church at Söflingen. In the masonry you meet the district's earlier history, because the builders set stones from the demolished Hofen Castle into the fabric.
