Park Villa Berg

Park Villa Berg lies in eastern Stuttgart, where green space gives you a quiet retreat from the city’s bustle. Play areas and sunbathing lawns shape the grounds. The park forms part of Stuttgart’s Green U, a chain of connected green spaces, and transitions westward into the lower palace garden. Its setting combines open lawns with the historic Villa Berg.

The park took shape during the nineteenth-century construction of Villa Berg, built between 1845 and 1853. Italian Renaissance design, a nearly cube-shaped structure and elaborate reliefs define the villa. Karl Friedrich Alexander von Württemberg commissioned the summer residence for himself and his wife. Stuttgart bought the property in 1913 and renovated it in 1925.

War damage later led to a simplified reconstruction, after which Süddeutscher Rundfunk used the building for concerts. The city repurchased Villa Berg in June 2015. Plans envision a future “house for music and more,” while the grounds retain their role as a place for play, relaxation and sunbathing.
