Neue Gartenstadtkirche
Neue Gartenstadtkirche stands in Stuttgart’s Luginsland district as a robust concrete church with modernist architecture. Its accessible building also serves as a community centre for local events and activities.
Luginsland began growing around a housing cooperative in 1911, and its first homes welcomed residents by 1913. The original church followed in 1931, then suffered severe bombing damage in 1944. The church hall returned to use in 1948, before Heinz Rall’s present structure opened on 30 March 1969. Emil Kiess contributed striking artwork, adding colour and expression to the concrete interior.
One detail connects the building to its surroundings: a housing community created the need for worship, and the rebuilt church still supports neighbourhood life.
